Wheat Soars to Record in Chicago; U.S. Exports Surge to Highest Since 1996

(Bloomberg) -- Wheat surged to a record $6.625 a
bushel in Chicago after weekly sales by U.S. exporters jumped to
the highest in 11 years.

Net sales by exporters were 2.08 million metric tons in the
week ended July 19, the highest since June 1996, the Department
of Agriculture said. Bangladesh bought U.S. wheat for the first
time in eight years, and more than 600,000 tons were sold to
unidentified buyers. Sales in the year that began June 1 have
soared 66 percent from a year earlier.
