compared with plus 25 in the December survey. The figure matched
the market's median forecast. The index for September was seen at
plus 22, showing firms expect conditions to slightly worsen over
the next three months.
- Among big manufacturers, the DI for electrical machinery
improved for the first time in three quarters to plus 21, the
highest since plus 25 in the December tankan. The DI for motor
vehicles worsened for the second straight quarter to plus 25, the
lowest level since plus 24 in the September 2003 tankan.
