Emission Permits Decline to Lowest Since June 27 as Utilities Switch Fuel

(Bloomberg) -- European Union carbon dioxide permits
fell to their lowest since June 27 because it's more profitable

during the summer, rather than coal.

Utilities require half the permits when burning gas instead
of coal, prompting them to switch to the cleaner fuel when the
emission allowances trade high enough. The EU system is the
world's biggest greenhouse-gas trading program.
